The Breastplate of Faith and the Hope of Salvation

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation” (1 Thessalonians 5:8).

In light of the imminent Rapture and the approaching day of the Lord (1 Th. 4:13 – 5:3), we are to put on “the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation” (1 Th. 5:8).

Hope Maketh Not Ashamed

“And hope maketh not ashamed…” (Romans 5:5).

“Ashamed” is kataischúno, “from kata, denoting ill, and aischúno, to shame, to confound, dishonor, disgrace” (Complete Word Study Bible). It is “to frustrate, disappoint” (Mounce). It is translated “confound” (1 Co. 1:27), “dishonor” (1 Co. 11:4, 5), and “shame” (1 Co. 11:22).

Our experience of the Truth is incomplete in terms of what impact is made on our natural mind, namely our temporal, physical limitations for how to know God. Our experience of the Truth is incomplete in terms of what impact is made on our natural heart, namely our ability to give and receive Love.
