Berean Perspective Apologetics Ministry

I want to tackle a controversial question that divides Protestants, Catholics, and those of the Orthodox Church, namely is intercession of the saints true or false? Gavin Ortlund did a video recently called Should Christians Pray to Saints? This will be a response review to Gavin Ortlund and to Roman Catholics and those of the Orthodox on is praying to Mary and the saints biblical or is it idolatry? Catholics and Orthodox insist that intercession of Mary and the saints is not worshiping Mary or the saints, but simply asking them to intercede before God. But I believe we need to put that claim under the authority of Scripture, not merely church tradition. Where does the Bible actually command Christians to pray to departed saints? Where do we see the apostles asking Mary, Peter, Paul, or other believers in heaven to hear their prayers? And if Scripture teaches that Jesus Christ is the one Mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5), why should Christians address heavenly creatures with prayers and petitions rather than going directly to God through Christ? From my perspective at Berean Perspective, this is where the issue becomes extremely serious. I believe the practice of praying to Mary and the saints is unbiblical and crosses the line into idolatrous devotion, regardless of whether someone intends to worship them as God. Scripture repeatedly calls believers to pray to God, while Christ alone is presented as our unique Mediator, Advocate, and High Priest. The argument that Mary and the saints can hear millions of simultaneous prayers, know the hearts and requests of believers, and carry those petitions before God raises enormous biblical and theological questions. If the Bible never teaches Christians to pray to departed saints, why are Christians doing it? Is church tradition being placed above Scripture? Is calling this “intercession” simply a way of giving a biblical sounding name to a practice Scripture never commands? In this Protestant vs Catholic vs Orthodox discussion, I want to challenge these claims directly and ask the question many people may not want to confront. Are we following the Bible or are we defending a tradition that has gone beyond what God has revealed? Are Trinitarians wrong does Philippians 2:5-11 teach Jesus Christ is not God? In this LIVE STREAM, I will respond to those who claim that Jesus Christ is not God, that He was merely a man, that the Trinity is false, and that Philippians 2:5–11 does not teach the Deity of Christ. We will carefully examine the actual context of Philippians 2:5–11 and ask what Paul is really saying about the identity, preexistence, incarnation, humility, death, resurrection, exaltation, and glory of Jesus Christ. Rather than isolating individual words or verses, we will look at the entire passage and its connection to the broader teaching of Scripture concerning who Jesus is. I will also focus on the incredible connection between Philippians 2:9–11 and Isaiah 45:22–23, where Yahweh ie the LORD declares that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess to God. Paul applies this language to Jesus Christ, showing that the One who humbled Himself by taking the likeness of man is the same divine Person who is exalted and receives universal worship and confession. Philippians 2:5-11 presents Jesus Christ as the eternal Son who preexisted, took on the likeness of humanity, humbled Himself unto death on the cross, and was then glorified and exalted. Right now, there is a growing movement online claiming that the Rapture of the Church is going to happen September 11–13, 2026, corresponding with the Jewish Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah. One of the clearest promoters is Keegan Fernandes, whose online ministry and YouTube material have repeatedly connected the Rapture to September 11–13. Fernandes has argued that the September 23, 2017 Revelation 12 sign was a “conception marker” and that the nine year period ending in September 2026 represents the Church being “born” through the Rapture. He has also connected Iran related events and supposed prophetic “deadlines” to the September 11–13 Feast of Trumpets window and has stated that “we now know the timing of the rapture,” while attempting to qualify that statement by saying we do not know the exact day or hour. In addition, the channels ENDTIME DREAM & VISION and Watchman River have recently added material supporting a September 11, 2026 Feast of Trumpets Rapture window. Rapture 2025 Confirmation, which has extensively promoted Joshua Mhlakela's prophetic claims, has also moved toward a September 2026 framework. Where does the Bible actually teach us that we can calculate the year, month, or Feast of Trumpets when Jesus will come for His Church? Jesus said plainly in Matthew 24:36, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” The problem with these predictions is that they take biblical passages such as Revelation 12, 1 Thessalonians 5, the Feast of Trumpets, lunar cycles, blood moons, Israel, Iran, geopolitical events, numerical calculations, and supposed prophetic patterns and then combine them into a system that supposedly reveals the timing of Christ's coming. But the fact that someone can construct an elaborate prophetic theory does not mean God has revealed it. Paul actually says in Acts 1:7 that it is not for us to know the times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. We absolutely should believe that Jesus Christ is coming again. We should watch, pray, evangelize, and live holy lives. But there is a massive difference between saying “Jesus is coming; therefore be ready” and saying “Jesus is coming September 11–13, 2026 because I have figured out the prophetic timeline.” The first is biblical Christianity; the second goes beyond what Scripture has actually revealed. Deuteronomy 18:20–22 gives us a serious biblical test for someone who claims to speak prophetically in God's name if the word does not come to pass, Scripture says that the prophet has spoken presumptuously and that God did not speak that word. Jesus also repeatedly warned about false prophets and deception surrounding His return. Therefore, Christians should not be mesmerized by dramatic countdowns, prophetic charts, Revelation 12 calculations, Feast of Trumpets theories, Middle East headlines, blood moons, or people claiming they have discovered the timing of the Rapture. If September 11–13 passes without the Rapture, Christians should not simply move the goalposts to another date. We should recognize the failure, reject the false prediction, and return to what Scripture actually says. As we move through 2026, the online Rapture date setting movement has continued, with various YouTube channels and prophetic personalities claiming that they have discovered the specific time when Jesus Christ will rapture His Church. One of the most prominent figures is South African preacher Joshua Mhlakela of the Exodus 2025 channel, who originally claimed that Jesus had revealed September 23–24, 2025 as the Rapture date. After that prediction failed, numerous additional dates were promoted, including October 16–17, 2025, November 23–24 and 27–28, April 4–5, May 1–2, May 4–5, June 6–7, June 21–22, June 27–28, and July 4–5, 2026. After those dates passed, his claims eventually shifted to a new Tishri 1 / Feast of Trumpets calculation, with his followers placing the expected Rapture around October 11–13, 2026. Other channels have also participated in this continuing speculation. Rapture 2025 Confirmation has functioned as a major amplifier of Joshua Mhlakela's claims, while ENDTIME DREAM & VISION and Watchman River have recently promoted material pointing toward a September 10–12, 2026 window, particularly September 11, associated with the Feast of Trumpets. The serious problem is when someone moves from saying “Jesus could come at any moment” to claiming “God has revealed to me that Jesus will come on this particular date.” We have already witnessed this pattern repeatedly: a date is announced with great certainty, the date passes, and instead of acknowledging that the prophecy was false, the claim is often reinterpreted through a different calendar, a new dream or vision, a supposed delay, or a newly discovered prophetic calculation. Joshua Mhlakela's history is especially significant because his original September 2025 prediction was followed by numerous additional dates, while other personalities have independently produced their own calculations and predictions for 2026. The fact that multiple channels are now converging around September 10–12 and others are looking toward October 11–13 should not cause Christians to become more confident in these predictions; it should cause us to become more discerning. The biblical warning is extremely clear: Jesus Himself said, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man” (Matthew 24:36). Scripture also gives us a serious test concerning prophetic claims. Deuteronomy 18:20–22 teaches that when someone speaks in the name of the LORD and the thing does not come to pass, that person has spoken presumptuously and the message was not from God. The New Testament likewise commands Christians not to believe every spiritual claim but to “test the spirits” because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1), and 2 Peter 2:1 warns that false prophets and false teachers will arise among God's people. Therefore, Christians should not follow, promote, or excuse repeated failed Rapture-date predictions. We should mark these teachings, expose them with Scripture, and warn other believers to avoid being deceived. Jesus is coming again but our confidence must rest in Christ and His Word, not in YouTube prophets, dreams, visions, calendars, numerology, or somebody claiming that God privately told them the date. The Book of Acts is the fifth book of the New Testament, written by Luke as a continuation of his Gospel. It records the birth and early growth of the Christian church, beginning with Jesus’ ascension into heaven and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It covers the apostles’ bold preaching in Jerusalem, the rapid expansion of the faith among Jews and Gentiles, the conversion of Saul who became Paul, and Paul’s missionary journeys that carried the message of Christ across the Roman world. Through these events, Acts shows how the gospel moved from a small group of disciples in Judea to a growing movement that reached the ends of the known world. Christians are people who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe in the essential doctrine of the Trinity—one eternal God who exists as three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—equal in power and glory yet united in essence. Our faith rests on Jesus: His perfect life, sacrificial death on the cross for our sins, bodily resurrection, and ascension. From the Vatican website: “A renewed Saint Agatha, restored by Vatican experts to its full splendor thanks to the meticulous conservation work on the reliquary that once covered her tomb. The faithful gathered in the Cathedral Basilica of Catania on the evening of Monday, 20 July, to admire the results of the restoration presented by the specialist team of the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage of the Governorate of Vatican City State, led by Barbara Pinto Folicaldi. During the cerimony, the restored image of Saint Agatha was unveiled, revealing once again her original beauty and color. Among those speaking at the event were the Archbishop of Catania, Most Reverend Monsignor Luigi Renna, the mayor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, the Superintendent for Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Catania, Maurizio Auteri, the President of the Governorate of Vatican City State, Sr Raffaella Petrini, and the Director of Museums and Cultural Heritage, Barbara Jatta. Also present were the Secretary General of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Giuseppe Andrea Salvatore Baturi, the Rector of the Cathedral, Monsignor Barbaro Scionti, and the Deputy Administrative Director of the Vatican Museums, Alberto Albanese. The technical details of the restoration were subsequently presented by the project director, Elisabetta Cioni, together with the restorers from the Vatican Museums. The event concluded with a prayer led by Archbishop Renna, who then displayed the relic of the head of the Patron Saint of Catania for the veneration of the faithful. On this occasion, the reliquary bust, containing Saint Agatha's skull, the veil, and a tactile three-dimensional bust displaying the restored ex-voto jewels were exhibited. During the restoration, the relic of Saint Agatha's skull was removed from the bust and placed in a reliquary to allow for its public veneration. It will be returned to its original reliquary on 17 August, the day commemorating the return of the Saint's relics from Constantinople to Catania. This year, the celebration also marks the ninth centenary of the Translation of the Relics (1126–2026).
