1 John 4:8 & 16 KJV, “… God is love …”. To be like God we must study God.
To study God we must learn how to love by reading and reflecting on 1 John
and 1 Corinthians 13.
1 John 4:7-8 KJV, Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and
every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not
knoweth not God; for God is love.
1 John 4:10 KJV, Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us,
and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:16 KJV, And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us.
God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:19-20 KJV, We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I
love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his
brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Reflection: To be continually loving (“dwelleth in love”) is to have the love
character of God (“dwelleth in God”). God has shown love to us as an example
of how we can show love in return to others including our own family.
1 Corinthians 13:3 KJV, And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:4 KJV, Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not;
charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
1 Corinthians 13:5 KJV, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is
not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
1 Corinthians 13:6 KJV, Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Corinthians 13:13 KJV, And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but
the greatest of these is charity.
Reflection: Good actions must be motivated by love, or else it does not count.
Love is patient, kind, doesn’t envy others and is not too proud. Love does not
get angry easily and never wishes evil on anyone. Love is the greatest virtue.
