I Corn 12:1
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Paul is writing the Corinthian church; as well as us, and telling them he does not what them to be ignorant about spiritual gifts.
[1 Cor 1:1-2 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:]
I Cor 12:2
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
He is reminding them that they were once worshiping idols and they were led astray
I Cor 12:3
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
He is telling all of us that no one who is speaking by the spirit of God will call Jesus accursed and no one can say Jesus is Lord unless they are born of the spirit. When we are born again we receive the spirit of God. (see the gospel of John Chapter 3)
This tells me that all you need to do is to be born again to have the Holy Ghost. I know a lot of Christians who do not speak in tongues that can say the Jesus is the Lord. People that are not born again will not say that because of their pride. There are some churches that teach you are not saved until you speak in tongues, to me the true test is if you can confess Jesus Is The Lord. Also if you are truly a Christian you would never want to curse Jesus. It even bothers me when I hear others doing that. I haved walk away from movies when I start hearing them take the Lord’s name in vain.
I Cor 12:4
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
I looked up the word diversities in the dictionary and it means different, variety. So this verse is telling us that there are many different gifts, but they all come from the spirit. We all have different abilities and we all like different things. He give us different gifts based on what He thinks we should have or need in our lives, so that we can reach others or to help us grow in the knowledge of Him.
The Greek word translated “gift” is charisma, the root of which is “grace.”Spiritual gifts proceed from the grace of God. Each gift is as unique as the person to whom it is given, yet all gifts bear the stamp of the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit is the giver of the gifts and the power behind the exercise of the gifts, but He always works in the background, never bringing attention to himself.
The Holy Spirit works is ALWAYS to glorify the Son (John 16:14)
I Cor 12:5
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
Again this verse tells us that based on our abilities or talents the Lord will lead us to where we can be used by Him to help someone. We need to let God show us where we belong in the body of Christ. It is our job to be open and ready to serve.
