Problem: The book of Numbers states that there were two million Jews (Num. 1:45-46), and they crossed the Red Sea in a twenty four hour period. How can this be?
Solution: It was not necessarily a 24 hour period. There is no time reference to this command. Moreover, the text does not say that they walked single file. They may have walked down a stretch several miles wide, as the sea itself is miles wide. Moreover, as has been argued earlier (Ex. 12:37), it is possible that there were less than two million Jews in the Hebrew assembly.
