However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?version=NKJV&amp;search=2Sa21.19\">2 Samuel 21:19<\/a> says clearly: \u201cElhanan &#8230; killed Goliath the Gittite.\u201d But both texts cannot be right.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><strong>Solution:<\/strong> The 2 Samuel text is probably a scribal error in copying the manuscript and should read \u201cElhanan &#8230; slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite.\u201d This conclusion is supported by a parallel report of the story in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?version=NKJV&amp;search=1Ch20.5\">1 Chronicles 20:5<\/a> which has the missing highlighted phrase \u201cLahmi the brother of,\u201d thus showing it was the brother of Goliath that Elhanan killed and not Goliath, whom David slew just as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?version=NKJV&amp;search=1Sa17.1-58\">1 Samuel 17<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Problem: First Samuel 17 records the dramatic story of how David the son of Jesse killed the giant Goliath.
