Denies before cock crows<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mathew 26:34,74-75, \u201cJesus said to him, \u201cTruly I say to you that this very night, before a cock crows, you shall deny Me three times\u202674 Then he began to curse and swear, \u201cI do not know the man!\u201d And immediately a cock crowed. 75 And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, \u201cBefore a cock crows, you will deny Me three times.\u201d And he went out and wept bitterly.\u201d<\/p>\n


\nLuke 22:34,60-62, \u201cAnd He said, \u201cI say to you, Peter, the cock will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me . . . .60 But Peter said, \u201cMan, I do not know what you are talking about.\u201d And immediately, while he was still speaking, a cock crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, \u201cBefore a cock crows today, you will deny Me three times.\u201d 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.\u201d<\/p>\n

John 13:38, \u201cJesus answered, \u201cWill you lay down your life for Me? Truly, truly, I say to you, a cock shall not crow, until you deny Me three times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Denies before cock crows twice<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mark 14:30, \u201cAnd Jesus said to him, \u201cTruly I say to you, that you yourself this very night, before a cock crows twice, shall three times deny Me\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

If a cock crows a second time, then it has crowed once before. The problem is that in Mark, after Peter denies the Lord for the third time (Mark 14:71), immediately a cock crows a second time (v. 72). The other gospels tell us that after Peter\u2019s third denial a cock then crows. How do we reconcile this difficulty?<\/p>\n

Mark does not mention when the cock crowed the first time. Therefore, it is possible that after Peter\u2019s third denial, the cock then crowed twice; that is, two times in a row. This is logically possible and does not necessitate a contradiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

They said therefore to him, \u201cYou are not also one of His disciples, are you?\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
1st denial<\/strong><\/td>\n70 But he denied it before them all, saying, \u201cI do not know what you are talking about.\u201d<\/td>\n68 But he denied it, saying, \u201cI neither know nor understand what you are talking about.\u201d And he went out onto the porch.<\/td>\n57 But he denied it, saying, \u201cWoman, I do not know Him.\u201d<\/td>\n25b He denied it, and said, \u201cI am not.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

2nd denial<\/strong><\/td>\n72 And again he denied it with an oath, \u201cI do not know the man.\u201d<\/td>\n70a But again he was denying it.<\/td>\n58b But Peter said, \u201cMan, I am not!\u201d<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
third inquiry<\/strong><\/td>\n73 And a little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, \u201cSurely you too are one of them; for the way you talk gives you away.\u201d<\/td>\n70b And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, \u201cSurely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean too.\u201d<\/td>\n59 And after about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, \u201cCertainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
